چکیده

Flexible capacitive pressure sensors fabricated with nanocomposites were experimentally characterized and results compared with simulations from analytical modeling. Unlike traditional diaphragm silicon pressure sensors, the flexible nanocomposite sensors present a linear response over a large pressure range due to the changes in the volume of the dielectric that cause the pressure inside the dielectric cavity to change. Several devices with different geometries were used and the model results compare well with the experimental data. Sensitivities ranging from 2.520 fF/kPa were obtained and the devices dynamic response show a dual behavior, i.e., response time of the sensor during a pressure decreasing step is lower than for a pressure increasing step. This comportment is explained by the viscoelastic behavior of the PDMS-based nanocomposites used for fabrication of the capacitive sensor electrodes. © 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Studying the Mechanical Behavior of Tissue in the Generation of Pressure Sores using Simulation and a Guinea Pig Experimental Model

Introduction:  Pressure  sores  refer  to  lesions  that  are  produced  while  a  constant  pressure  causes  necrotic  tissue to grow. The need for a better comprehension of the process has led researchers to artificial generation  of  pressure  sores.  Modeling  the  mechanical  behavior  of tissue  will  provide  a better understanding  of this  process as well as a more suitable selection ...

Modeling and Simulation of Blast Wave for Pressure Sensor Design

In this paper a universal model for pressure waves generated by high energy charge explosives and gunshots is developed for determining the pressure vs. time profile (P-T curve) at a given point in space which is useful for design and characterization of pressure micro sensors and explosives etc. The simulation of the model is carried out through virtual instrumentation (VI) using LabVIEW. The ...

A Flexible Sensor Technology for the Distributed Measurement of Interaction Pressure

We present a sensor technology for the measure of the physical human-robot interaction pressure developed in the last years at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna. The system is composed of flexible matrices of opto-electronic sensors covered by a soft silicone cover. This sensory system is completely modular and scalable, allowing one to cover areas of any sizes and shapes, and to measure different pre...

Modeling of Compression Curves of Flexible Polyurethane Foam with Variable Density, Chemical Formulations and Strain Rates

Flexible Polyurethane (PU) foam samples with different densities and chemical formulations were tested in quasi-static stress-strain compression tests. The compression tests were performed using the Lloyd LR5K Plus instrument at fixed compression strain rate of 0.033 s-1 and samples were compressed up to 70% compression strains. All foam samples were tested in the foam rise direction and their ...

Evaluation of Flexible Force Sensors for Pressure Monitoring in Treatment of Chronic Venous Disorders

The recent use of graduated compression therapy for treatment of chronic venous disorders such as leg ulcers and oedema has led to considerable research interest in flexible and low-cost force sensors. Properly applied low pressure during compression therapy can substantially improve the treatment of chronic venous disorders. However, achievement of the recommended low pressure levels and its a...
